WORKERS helped to pull in the pounds for charity at a Basingstoke store.

Members of staff from do-it-yourself store Wickes, in Churchill Way West, took to the saddle for three days from last Friday as they joined in a nationwide fundraising weekend.

Across the UK, staff from Wickes cycled 24,859 miles – the distance of travelling around the world – to pull in the pounds for Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research.

And members of staff from the Basingstoke team managed to complete their 135 miles by taking it in turns to do 20 miles stints on the bike, raising £562.

Martin Irish, deputy manager at the store, told The Gazette: “We are all really pleased to be supporting Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research, and we are proud of all the work the company has achieved over the last eight years in raising £4m.

“We would also like to say thank-you to all of our customers who have supported us with their donations.”
