1. Who was your childhood hero and why? It has to be Jimmy Greaves – he mesmerised opponents with his skill and I saw him many times as a youngster.

2. What is your most precious possession and why is it important to you? My dad’s solid gold watch, which was presented to him by British Aerospace after 21 years of service. I will hand it down to my son Kris as it is now a family heirloom.

3. What was the first record/CD you bought? It was 45rpm record of The House of the Rising Sun by The Animals. That dates me!

4. What is the radio/television show you hate to miss? The TV programme Homes under the Hammer. I’m fascinated what people do to run-down properties with often quite small sums of cash.

5. What is your favourite film? I love Mamma Mia. It’s such a happy film, happy songs and I admit to knowing most of the words.

6. What is your pet hate? Mayonnaise! I hate the stuff and when I’m in a sandwich bar I have to make sure not a drop ends up on my baguette.

7. What are you reading at the moment? South by Sir Ernest Shackleton – it’s the story of the Endurance Expedition. Brave men and tough times, without all of today’s high-tech equipment.

8. If you were choosing you last meal what would it be? Doner kebab and chips. Really unhealthy I know but would I worry at that stage?

9. If you could meet anyone from history, who would it be? Bobby Moore. I met and worked with him on a number of occasions and he was not only a fantastic footballer but a gentleman and a wonderful ambassador for our country.

10. If you had a time machine, where would it take you? Back to the times when the Pyramids were built to see how they put them up with such precision and without JCBs.

11. If you were stranded on a desert island what luxury would you choose to have with you? A decent bottle of Champagne. I’d drown my sorrows then put a message in the bottle and hope to be rescued.

12. What team do you support? Spurs – and I’ve got a retro tracksuit jacket I wear when we’ve won!

13. What was your first job? I trained as a heating and ventilation engineer… and hated it.

14. If you could take over someone’s job for the day, whose job would you choose? England manager Roy Hodgson. I would make every player word perfect in reciting the national anthem – and if they didn’t sing it, I’d fire them!

15. What worries you most? The NHS being privatised one day.

16. What is your proudest moment? Becoming chairman and Mayor of Whitchurch Town Council – I never saw that coming. It really is an honour and privilege to have been nominated for these roles.

17. What would you like your epitaph to be? ‘He aimed to make a difference and never gave up trying’.

18. What’s your guilty pleasure? Whoops, it’s that doner kebab again. There are others which I daren’t mention here.

19. What one thing could change society for the better? Getting people to actually talk to one another properly again without the need to text, email or use any of the other hitech devices we have now for ‘conversation’. Let’s talk again.

20. What three words best describe you? I’m glad you’re not asking my wife Jan, but I’ll say ‘gets things done’.
