Basingstoke MP Maria Miller shows support for foodbank

First published in News

BASINGSTOKE MP Maria Miller has shown her support for a local foodbank service.

Mrs Miller attended the fourth Neighbourhood Food Collection, which is a partnership between the Trussel Trust, Fareshare and Tesco, at the supermarket’s store in Chineham Shopping Centre.

The partnership collects long-life food products such as rice, pasta, tea and coffee and distributes them to vulnerable people across Basingstoke.

The Basingstoke MP said: “Thanks to the generosity of shoppers, Tesco staff and volunteers from the Trussel Trust, the collection is proving a great success.

“The foodbank is an important local support service for those who find themselves in really difficult circumstances.”

I believe the people of Basingstoke , Tesco staff and the Trussel Trust are all generous people, but Mrs Miller is just thinking of herself, following her disgraceful conduct over her expenses, she now thinks that turning up at a local supermarket will improve her public image. I don't see the connection between Mrs Miller and the word generosity .

Maria Miller worked closely with IDS on welfare reform that has condemned thousands to the food banks queues, she has no conscience/shame and above all she took £40,000 out of the system that could have helped the needed, “Up yours Jack I’m alright” springs to mind.
She should stand down not just for cheating the benefit system but for taking us for morons in believing she cares.

I'd like to know why the local Conservative Party have no interest that they will lose votes if she is still MP come next May? I'll be having to spoil my ballot paper as things stand.

(I work for a living so would never, ever vote Labour, and I am not an uneducated racist, so UKIP are out the window.)

I have a reasonable education, work for a living as well as employ others, am not a racist and did vote UKIP. I don't know what could be worse between the choices though, ask Brighton residents how they are getting along with the Green party and their publicity seeking leader, thats the trouble with the choices we have, they don't all give what we want but do all take what they want.

I don't think that eventuality will arise. If I know party politics her party will replace her with another candidate by the next election.
The saddest part is that she will either get an even more lucrative role in Brussels or an even more lucrative one for life in the Lords. Both main parties are very good at that. Baroness Basingstoke would be a particular insult to her constituents!

I've only been away for a few days and another failed PR stunt from our MP.
Next up escorting residents back into their flood repaired Buckskin homes? Because she has been very vocal in calling for action to sort this ongoing local issue, I bet her office is constantly pestering County Council/Housing Association & the Utilities to help address her Buckskin constituents serious concerns. I was sure she has been back since her last visit in February to check up on progress, but I can't see anything on the party website, although she does want to "STOP INTERNET REVENGE ****” – victim or a guilty conscience Mrs M? Oh, I forgot our MP does not have one of those.

Maria Miller is treating the people of Basingstoke with contempt.
Miller inflicted so much pain and deprivation on thousands of people throughout the UK, her lack of compassion was only equalled by her desire for promotion in this Government.
What was Miller doing whilst inflicting all that pain,
"trying to cover up her housing benefit scam"

She must go.

Angry of Basingstoke says...

Mrs Miller really ought to understand that she is not the MP that the people of Basingstoke want.

No matter what she tries she has ingrained herself with negativity and is forever tainted with corruption… she personally ruined her own reputation and should move on for the people of Basingstoke who deserve an MP of impeccable moral standards. Basingstoke is 'blighted' whilst she tries to cling on to her Seat no matter what the cost?… It's not personal, but most decent people would have fallen on their sword realised they'd made a mess of things and sought out another career.

I also sincerely hope Cameron does not try to make her an unelected Baroness like the former disgraced Baroness Warsi (incidentally making the same mistakes as MM and corruption and expenses fiddling with houses) has just resigned over Israeli/Palestinian conflict.

I hope the Conservative Association is taking this on-board or do they have to lose everything before they realise what the electorate believe?
It's not like she will become homeless because she's already sorted that out...

This is really so hypocritical.
The policies Maria Miller has supported through Government including welfare cuts, bedroom tax, cuts in Supporting People funding, as well as the mismanagement of the DWP leading to people being unfairly sanctioned and a refusal to acknowledge or deal with an increasing housing crisis have created the need for people to access food banks just to survive.
Quote:

How can you honestly say that, when you have helped create the really difficult circumstances people find themselves in?
It's even more hypocritical that you have been quite happy to fleece the taxpayer for your own benefit ..... if it had been benefits rather than 'expenses', you would have found yourself either in court or being sanctioned.

Miller was receiving housing benefit all be it through her expenses, any support on housing is a benefit according to this Governments welfare reforms, sadly however that only applies to Joe public and not Miller who played an integral part in this Governments reforms that has brought so much pain and hardship to tens of thousands.
