DOZENS of children, parents and staff took a stroll around the grounds of Sherfield School in aid of a charity.

They were joined on their walk by a guide dog and training puppy along with representatives from charity Guide Dogs, which the event was in aid of.

The pupils, from nursery and pre-reception, were sponsored by family and friends to take part in the walk, and more than £600 was raised.

Sandra Battershall, head of nursery at the school, in Sherfield-on-Loddon, said: “We had beautiful sunshine and it was a fantastic walk. And it was lovely to see the guide dog, Pammy, and Roman the training puppy.”

Ellen Young, trainer, and Katie Smith, community fundraiser for Guide Dogs, also took part in the walk.

Mrs Battershall said: “We will continue to raise money for the charity, and it’s nice for the children to be able to see the dogs and to see how the money they raise will help.”

The hundreds of pounds raised through the sponsored walk will go towards a new-born puppy fund, run by the charity, and the school will be able to name a puppy.

Katie said: “When the puppy is born, we will take it to the school and they will be able to meet the puppy they have named. We’re really grateful for all the support of the staff, pupils and parents.”
