BASINGSTOKE and North Hants cricketer Ryan Connor is the eldest of two children and grew up in West London.

He soon found a passion for sport, playing both football and cricket before going on to play club cricket for 20 years.

Ryan played a lot of his cricket in the Middlesex Premier League and was part of the Richmond CC team that won the Middlesex Premier League, and an Uxbridge CC team that reached the final of the Evening Standard Cup. He hopes to help Basingstoke and North Hants win promotion to the Southern League Premier Division this summer.

Ryan is a right-arm medium/slow bowler with the knack of moving the ball off the seam. Away from cricket, Ryan runs his own recruitment business and is a proud uncle.

1. Who was your childhood hero and why? Thierry Henry was a magician for Arsenal, Curtly Ambrose was just an immense bowler, and Shane Warne was an entertainer. I know he is a fictional character, but James Bond was definitely a hero of mine.

2. What is your most precious possession, and why is it important to you? Apart from the photos of when I modelled for Mothercare, probably a gold chain that my mum gave to me for my 18th birthday.

3. What was the first record/CD you bought? Michael Jackson’s Bad.

4. What is the radio/television show you hate to miss? Come Dine With Me.

5. What is your favourite film? Police Academy or East Is East.

6. What is your pet hate? Drivers who drive in the wrong lane and fail to indicate when turning.

7. What are you reading at the moment? Thinking, Fast and Slow by Daniel Kahneman.

8. If you were choosing a last meal, what would it be? Steak with peppercorn sauce served on a bed of home-grown mixed vegetables and dauphinoise potatoes. For dessert it would have to be Arctic roll.

9. If you could meet anyone from history, who would it be? Musashi Miyamoto – the greatest Samurai warrior. The whole ‘way of the warrior’ fascinates me.

10. If you had a time machine, where would it take you? It would definitely have to be some time in the future. I find it scary yet fascinating what lies ahead.

11. If you were stranded on a desert island, what luxury would you choose to have with you? A power shower and shower gel.

12. What sports team do you support? I support Arsenal FC, London Wasps RFC and Middlesex County Cricket Club.

13. What was your first job? I worked on the grounds at Uxbridge Cricket Club during summer breaks when studying, although my first “proper job” was in recruitment, working in construction trades and labour.

14. If you could take over someone’s job for the day, whose job would you choose? James Bond.

15. What worries you the most? Losing my eyesight. The world is a beautiful place, and not being able to appreciate nature and beauty in the human form would be tragic.

16. What is your proudest moment? I’m yet to father a child or to get married so it would have to be coming top of the class in religious education at school, winning the 2014 Bounty squash handicap B plate final or scoring my maiden hundred against the Bounty Social, aged 34.

17. What would you like your epitaph to be? I tend to live and think about the ‘now’ and not the end so I guess it would be something along the lines of ‘The end of another short yet sweet innings’.

18. What’s your guilty pleasure? Dairy Milk or Fruit & Nut that has been chilled in a fridge.

19. What one thing could change society for the better? Conscription or some sort of compulsory military service from the age of 16-18.

20. What three words best describe you? Ambitious, confident, misunderstood.
