A RECTOR got a soaking as part of an annual church fete in Overton.
The St Mary’s Church fete took place this year in the grounds of the Dellands House, in Dellands Lane, which is the home of Inge Hunter.
Despite the occasional rain shower, families were able to enjoy a range of attractions, including a target putting green, a water-into-wine stall and music by the Squinty McGinty’s Band.
There was also a barbecue and a strawberries and cream stall.
The Reverend Ian Smale had a very wet afternoon – trapped in a pair of stocks, he was the target for children armed with wet sponges.
Thanking those who attended and who manned the stalls, Ian Haynes, chairman of the fete committee, said: “Despite the weather, there was a very good number of people here from the village, and everyone seemed to have a good time.”
Sarah Grindle, of Kingsclere Road, Overton, attended the fete for the first time, and manned a teddy bear stall.
She said: “I think it’s great. This is the first time it’s been to Dellands House and it’s a lovely spot.”
Funds raised on the day will go to the general maintenance of St Mary’s Church, in Kingsclere Road.
