IT’S always a difficult decision to choose a name for a new-born baby – but a couple have taken the unusual approach of calling their daughter after their favourite hotel.

Amy and Tim Harvey have named their little girl Tylney after the Tylney Hall Hotel, in Ridge Lane, Rotherwick.

Tylney Jayne Harvey was born at 10.45am on Thursday, June 19, weighing 7lbs and 14oz.

The hotel holds a special place in the hearts of the couple, from Horndean, Hampshire, as Tim proposed to Amy during a walk around its gardens in August 2011.

Amy said: “We celebrated our first wedding anniversary at the hotel in April 2013, and returned again later that year for New Year’s Eve.

“Choosing a name for our daughter took a lot of thought and my husband first suggested Tylney as a name at Christmas when we were discussing possibilities. We wanted something unique and special so Tylney is perfect for us.”

Tylney’s 11-year-old sister has a more conventional name, Tia.

The hotel was originally named after the Tylney family, who owned a vast tract of land that stretched to Rye Common to the south of Odiham. The family also funded the building of White-water Primary School in 1712.

The hotel gave the new arrival a rabbit cuddly toy and have offered her parents a free overnight stay including dinner and breakfast.

Mark Robinson, general manager of Tylney Hall Hotel and Gardens, said: “We are delighted to hear that Mr and Mrs Harvey have chosen such a special and individual name for their daughter.

“We would like to extend our warmest congratulations to them and their family, and look forward to meeting baby Tylney soon.”
