THESE pictures were taken of the lightning storm which hit Basingstoke last night.

The electric storm began at around 12.30am, waking up households following a day of high temperatures as the heatwave continues.

Heavy rain pelted the town accompanied by thunder and lightning, which was captured on camera over the Basingstoke skyline by Lewis Horsley.

Further storms are forecast in the Basingstoke area today and tomorrow.
