BIN collections in Basingstoke will be carried out as normal tomorrow, as public sector unions go on strike.

Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council said it is planning to keep disruption to a minimum, but has warned that it is not clear to what extent the industrial action will affect services.

The council has confirmed, however, that refuse and recycling collections will not be affected, so bins should be put out as normal.

Tony Curtis, chief executive, said: “We are aware that some staff will be supporting the national strike action. It is the council’s intention to remain open on Thursday, July 10 and to ensure essential services continue to run for our customers.

“Residents can help us to help them by avoiding contacting the council with non-urgent enquiries on strike day.”
