A BBC multimedia correspondent returned to her former college to give an inspirational talk to students about her successful career in journalism.

Sima Kotecha, who works for the BBC’s flagship Today programme on Radio 4 – the most listened to and influential speech breakfast programme in the UK – spoke to QMC students to encourage them with their studies.

She talked about her successes since leaving the college and the highlights of her career, which included interviewing US President Barack Obama and providing coverage on the Afghanistan war.

Sima studied business studies, theatre studies and English language at QMC.

She went on to achieve a journalism degree before starting her career in public relations and later landing her big break with BBC Radio Berkshire.

Sima spoke about her experiences and demonstrated to the students that with hard work and determination, it is possible to have a rewarding and successful career in journalism.

Matt Hook, head of QMC’s media department, said: “It was wonderful to have such a well-respected and successful journalist return to the college where she studied, and speak to our students about her career since leaving QMC.

“Sima gave our students a fantastic insight in to the media world and some excellent advice on how to forge a career in such a competitive industry.”
