A CONVOY of famous supercars led by a BBC Radio 2 DJ arrived at a north Hampshire farm last week.

The collection of cars, known as the Dirty Dozen, is made up of the Magnificent Seven – a collection of Ferraris – and the Famous Five, a selection of cars made famous for playing starring roles in blockbuster films.

The cars arrived at Laverstoke Park Farm last Thursday, driven by the winners of an auction held by Chris Evans on his BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show.

The drivers and their partners were given the exclusive opportunity to get behind the wheel of the expensive vehicles after bidding in the auction, which generated £946,651 for BBC Children in Need.

The 12 generous couples won the chance to drive the supercars for five days, completing a tour of the British countryside and participating in experiences which money cannot buy.

As part of the trip, the group visited Laverstoke Park Farm, owned by Jody and Clare Scheckter, where they were given a tour of the venue.

The drivers was greeted by a police escort off the A303 and along the C29 to the farm, where they put the vehicles to the test by driving them along a Hill Climb, set up for CarFest – an annual festival held at Laverstoke Park over the August bank holiday weekend.

Jody, a former Formula One champion, then led the cars through the rolling countryside and through the middle of his farm to view his private collection of Formula One cars.

He talked to the guests about his first career and told how he progressed from a young driver in 1971 through to being World Champion in 1979.

The group then tasted 12 different flavours of Laverstoke Park Farm ice cream followed by buffalo fudge.

After being stocked up with Scheckter’s Organic Energy drink and Laverstoke Park Farm jerky for the onward journey, the drivers then paraded through Overton, where villagers gathered to cheer and wave as the group revved their engines and hooted.

Jody led the drivers to Thruxton, where he drove the 2014 Ferrari 458 Speciale on full throttle, with each of the winners taking it in turns to ride in the passenger seat.

Jody said: “It was great to be able to support Chris again – he gives so much of his time and energy to give these people an unforgettable experience, and they were all just lovely and enjoying every moment of it. And the Ferrari was really fun to drive.”
