A BEER brewed in Basingstoke has made its way into a bar in Parliament.

The ale – named the Winning Co-ALE-ition – from the Longdog Brewery, based on the Moniton Trading Estate, in West Ham Lane, is being sold as a guest ale in the Strangers Bar, in the House of Commons.

The brewery has supplied five, nine-gallon firkins, and the Winning Co-ALE-ition ale will be on sale until it is all gone.

As previously reported in The Gazette, the ale was made by the brewery after it teamed up with the Monster Raving Loony Party to celebrate 30 years since its first parliamentary candidate stood for election.

Brewery owner, Phil Robins, then decided to approach Basingstoke MP Maria Miller in a bid to sell the beer to MPs.

The father-of-two, who lives in Saffron Close, Chineham told The Gazette: “We thought we would try and approach Maria Miller to get it into the Strangers Bar.

“When you want to get beer in there, you have to contact your MP and they have to sponsor you. We were absolutely thrilled that she took the time to sponsor us.”

Mrs Miller said: “I am delighted to support Longdog Brewery’s Winning Co-ALE-ition as a guest beer in the House of Commons.

“Longdog Brewery is a great example of a local manufacturing business going from strength to strength, and it is a pleasure to have been able to help them introduce their beer to Members of Parliament from across the country in the Strangers Bar this week.”
