A GROUP of local Brownies spent a very happy morning in the college as they got stuck into an art project to celebrate a special occasion.

The Brownies, as an organisation, celebrate their 100th birthday this year, and Hampshire North County decided to organise a torch relay to go around all the Brownie packs in the area as part of the celebrations.

A competition was held to design the torch, and the winning design was from Phoebe Shea, of 1st Yateley Brownies.

Phoebe’s prize was to visit BCoT with other girls from her pack to make her torch.

With help and advice from the BCoT art department, the girls constructed the torch out of chicken wire and papier maché and then decorated it.

“The girls had fun getting very messy with glue and paint. The finished result was amazing!” said Brownie leader Sandra Gowland.

“It was lovely that the college was able to help the Brownies out on this project, and I think the adults enjoyed themselves as much as the Brownies did,” said BCoT art technician Rebecca Starkiss.
