OVER 1,000 children in the borough will have the opportunity to learn the importance of keeping safe during a “Think Safe” event organised by Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council.

During the next two weeks, around 1,400 year six schoolchildren from various schools in the borough will take part in the event at the Bramley Training Camp.

Each child will participate in a variety of sessions run by organisations including the police, the Royal National Lifeboat Institution, Trading Standards officers, the fire service, the British Red Cross and Sainsbury’s, which are all aimed at helping to keep children safe.

The sessions include talks on fire safety, first aid, stranger danger, cyber safety and sea safety, and pupils will experience live mock-ups of dangerous situations they may face in their day to day lives.

Under the guidance of the experts, children will learn how to respond to dangerous situations and the correct way to keep themselves and others safe.

Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council’s cabinet member for partnerships, Councillor Cathy Osselton said: “The annual “Think Safe” event gives borough children the opportunity to gain valuable knowledge and experience from professionals that are used to dealing with emergencies, to help keep them safe in the future.”
