A CAR somersaulted down the motorway after the female driver is thought to have passed out.

Firefighters were called to the M3 between Winchester and Basingstoke at 3.39pm yesterday, after the Nisan Micra came to a stop upside down on the road.

John Amos, watch manager at Basingstoke fire station, said the car had hit a bank before rolling over.

He added: “We were called because the car was leaking petrol. We turned it up the right way so it stopped leaking fuel and washed the road down.”

The woman was taken to hospital.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash.
