World record attempt to take place at Basingstoke McDonald's

Basingstoke Gazette: World record attempt to take place at Basingstoke McDonald's World record attempt to take place at Basingstoke McDonald's

STAFF at a Basingstoke fast food restaurant are hoping to help smash a world record for the most amount of cars to go through a drive-thru in one hour.

Workers at McDonald’s, in Basingstoke Leisure Park, will try to beat the current record, which stands at 226 cars, on Saturday, June 28, between 1pm and 2pm.

Gladstone Makazhe, assistant manager at the restaurant, said: “It is a lot of cars to get through in one hour, so we will have extra staff and will be working with the police to make sure that the traffic is managed correctly.

“All customers will have to place an order, and during that hour, everyone will get a free sugared donut.”

I expect they could beat that record with police cars alone!

Actually it would be a bugger if my old banger broke down in the queue!

Am I being cynical here or is this just an advert for MacDonalds? Punters are being led to believe they are helping to achieve a record but in reality it's just more income for the fast food chain.

They should try to set it during the school run for all those lazy parents who can't pour out a bowl of cereal for their kid's and then walk them to school

Me neither Jonone. But there are some stupid people out there who think they are part of something special.

Can you point a few of these stupid people in my direction please? On the same day as MacDonalds attempt their world record I will be trying to break one of my own - I will be trying to collect the largest ever number of used fivers from gullible members of the public. I will be the innocent looking young woman at the end of the traffic queue for byurgers.

So? Let them. Last time I checked, it was a free country.

Bit like complaining that something like Octoberfest is a conspiracy to make money for local breweries....

Who needs The Hampshire Fare Food Festival in B'stoke when we have a local MacDonald's encouraging us to eat more processed food by giving away sugared donuts. Ironic that MacDonald's will also benefit from free publicity during the opening week of a festival aimed at promoting real local food. Maybe MacDonald's should attempt a world record every week of the festival, the Gazette will cover it - how about aiming to sell 2 salads in a week for the next world record attempt?

Only if they have weak-willed, low income parents who can't be bothered cooking a real meal.
