A KIND-hearted healthcare assistant, honoured for her care of a patient in the last days of his life, had a tearful reunion with the patient’s son, who nominated her for an award.

Paul Keen, who nominated Kelly Hobbs, said that his father, Desmond, had received exceptional care.

He added: “My father was admitted to E3 on October 30 and he passed away on November 15.

“Kelly went above and beyond. One day, I found her sat on the edge of my father’s bed stroking his hand because he was having a bad day.”

He said that she also found time to support him, as well as caring for Desmond.

Kelly, 25, from Basingstoke, won the individual medical services division category.

She said: “Seeing Paul again just brought it all back and it was very emotional. When his father died, we cried together. I was just doing my job, and you don’t expect for a second that someone will think to nominate you for an award at a time like that.

“I was pleased to have been nominated. To have won is just incredible.”
