DRAMATIC pictures of lightning strikes were captured by people in Basingstoke last night.
The storm started just before midnight last night and went on into the early hours of this morning, bringing heavy rain, thunder and lightning.
Fortunately Basingstoke and north Hampshire escaped the worst of the weather, but in neighbouring Berkshire lightning stuck overhead cables, leaving hundreds of homes without power.
There were even reports of roof fires at homes after lightning strikes.
Among the pictures sent to us on Twitter and email is this one from Chris Bamber, showing the storm at its most spectacular.
This one, sent from @Physiquebody on Twitter, shows the how the lightning transformed the dark sky about South Ham.
And Kerry Roberts sent us these two pictures of her view of the storm from Popley.
Gary Percival took this picture of the storm in Winklebury.
Lorraine Milford submitted this picture of the storm as it appeared in Oakley.
Sarah Aubrey said her son took this picture from their house in Winchester Road.
Lewis Horsley took these stunning pictures in Hatch Warren.
