YOUNGSTERS at a Basingstoke school made their own kites before taking them to the air.

The kite-flying day took place at South View Junior School, and parents of the pupils were invited to watch their efforts.

Each year group spent an hour out on the school playing fields, in Shooters Way, South View, having built the kites using kits bought by the school.

The children ran across the field trying to get their kites to rise as high as possible.

Sue McLaughlan, the Year 6 teacher who organised the day, said it followed a similar event that the school staged four years ago.

She said: “Everyone came back in and said what fun they had. The looks on some of the children’s faces has been nice to see.”
