STALLS, games and activities entertained visitors to a memorable annual fete in aid of a Basingstoke hospice.

St Michael's Hospice Sunflower Fete was hailed a success after around 500 people attended, helping to raise £3,000 for the charity, in Aldermaston Road.

The fete is run as part of the hospice's Sunflower Appeal, which gives families the chance to make a dedication in memory of a loved one, by writing a personal message on wooden sunflowers which are planted in the hospice's Labyrinth Garden.

A special service was also held by hospice chaplain Liz Lang to mark the unveiling of the sunflowers.

It is hoped the appeal will raise a further £12,000 for St Michael's.

Iain Cameron, director of income generation at the hospice, said: “I am always taken aback by the support the community gives. It is support which enables the fantastic team at St Michael's Hospice to continue caring for patients and families both now and in the future.

“The sunflowers planted at the hospice will remain here throughout June, and people are most welcome to visit whenever you wish.”
