A BROTHER and sister from Basingstoke are preparing for the biggest night of their lives.

Ben and Joanne Davies, from South Ham, will take part in the grand final of ITV talent contest Britain's Got Talent tomorrow night.

The pair are members of dance act Addict Initiative and will take to the stage to perform a dance choreographed by Ben.

The winners of the contest will win £250,000 in prize money and a slot on the Royal Variety Performance.

Addict Initiative reached the final after finishing as runners-up in the second semi-final, behind teenage singer James Smith.

Their act incorporates sinister storytelling in fast-paced routines, and the team have been rehearsing for up to 12 hours a day since winning through to the final.

Former Aldworth School pupil Ben, who dances professionally, said: “The final is going to be scarier, darker and bigger and it’s certainly going to be more energetic.”

He said his inspiration comes from big feature films, adding: “I like twisting fairytales and making them darker stage versions.

“The last one was Snow White and we may do a different fairytale in the final.”

Addict Initiative’s costumes are all made by Ben and Joanne’s aunt and grandmother, who used to be a seamstress.

The group formed five years ago and decided to enter BGT following success in other competitions.

Ben said: “We never expected to get into the final. We are going to put ourselves in it to win it but we are aware of certain acts that have caused a lot of attention. Everyone in it is incredible.”

However, the live final will be bitter-sweet for 25-year-old Ben and his younger sister Joanne, 22, because their parents Patrick and Deborah are unable to watch them in the audience.

Deborah is due to undergo a last bout of chemotherapy for breast cancer on Friday, and will be too unwell to attend the show.

Ben said: “It’s so hard because my mum and dad have been so supportive and have never missed anything, so it’s so hard for her not to be there. But they will be the proudest parents ever at home.

“It’s as if it was fate – it’s something for mum to watch every week and it’s really lifted her spirits.”

Patrick, 54, said he and Deborah will watch the show at home.

He added: “We couldn’t go to the semi-final either because of the risk of infection. It’s really disappointing but it’s one of those things.”

Deborah, 50, was diagnosed with cancer in December last year, and has lost all her hair as a result of the gruelling treatment.

Patrick said: “That’s why the BGT success has been the most incredible lift. We are very proud of Ben and Joanne.”
