Basingstoke grandmother celebrates milestone birthday
A CARD from The Queen and a delightful cake were all part of a special day as a Basingstoke great-grandmother celebrated reaching a century.
Anne Jones enjoyed lunch with her family at The Queen Inn, in Dummer, on her 100th birthday, which was made extra special by a visit from her niece, Carolyn, who travelled all the way from America for the party.
Anne, who lives at Ashley Lodge, in Kings Furlong, Basingstoke, was born in London and had one child with her husband, who was a professional boxer known only as Chic.
Mrs Jones worked in a factory in London for many years. The grandmother-of-two, who also has two great-grandchildren, moved to Basingstoke in 2000, following the death of her husband in 1988, to be closer to her daughter, Irene Hobden.
Mrs Hobden, 67, from Lychpit, said of her mum’s 100th birthday celebration: “It went wonderfully well. All the family were there, including my cousin from America and others who travelled from Kent.
“It was really nice. A lot of the residents from Ashley Lodge came as well. It was lovely.”
