BROWNIES reached for the stars at an event to celebrate 100 years of the organisation.
Nearly 100 girls from groups in Whitchurch, Overton, Oakley and Winklebury, in Basingstoke, took part in the birthday celebrations at Oakley Junior School, where they completed activities around the theme of Star Quest.
The day was paid for using funds raised by the Brownies through a bag pack held at Sainsbury’s, in Hatch Warren.
Those attending made moonshine out of milkshake, stardust using sherbet, and reached for the stars by making their way to the top of a climbing wall.
The girls also learned a dance routine to S Club 7’s Reach for the Stars, which they performed using shakers they made during the day.
Basingstoke and Deane Mayor Councillor Dan Putty was the special guest, and visited the event to meet the Brownies and their leaders.
Michelle Le’Warne, leader of Second Overton Brownies, said: “The Mayor cut the birthday cake with two of the newest Brownies who were enrolled recently.”
She added: “We invited all the hierarchy of Guiding, past and present. They all had a picnic and sat on the field at Oakley school. It was fantastic – they had a wonderful day.”
