A WOMAN was pushed to the floor by a man before being robbed.

The victim, a 36-year-old, was dropped off by a taxi at the bottom of Bennet Close, South View and was walking through the estate to her home when she was approached by two men, at between 12.30am and 12.45am, on May 10.

She spoke to them and they seemed to want to help her walk home.

When they reached Martin Close, one of the men pushed her to the floor from behind.

Her handbag and gold iPhone 5 were snatched from her hands and the men left the scene.

The handbag was found by police near the scene.

Detective Constable Andy Wright, from Basingstoke police station, said: “I would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident or who may have seen two men in the area at the time.

“If you are out late at night try to stick with friends and avoid walking alone. Also try to keep your valuables out of sight.”

Anyone with information about this incident should contact Det Con Wright at Basingstoke CID on 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

A 17-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of robbery and has been bailed pending further enquires until June 9.
