HUNDREDS of green-fingered residents helped to raise £1,500 for charity while grabbing a bargain at an annual garden and craft fair.

The Rotary Club of Basing-stoke held its annual garden and craft fair at Milestones Museum, at Basingstoke Leisure Park, where hundreds of visitors flocked to get their hands on gardening goods.

The event provided something for the whole family.

A bouncy castle was on offer to help raise funds for the charity Basingstoke Spotlight, which is based at the Popley Spotlight Centre, in Shakespeare Road, Popley.

As well as enabling visitors to purchase plants, garden furniture and hand-crafted items including jewellery and cards, the event, which ran from 10am to 4pm, raised £1,500 for Basingstoke Mencap.

Mike Narracott, a member of the Rotary Club, told The Gazette: “In the morning it was very busy.

“We had a good crowd of exhibitors inside the craft marquee and in the grounds, providing options for plant purchases and other things.

“We have been doing it for 12 years now, and it is a successful event.”
