VOLUNTEERS are still needed to help run a village swimming pool under threat of closure.

As previously reported in The Gazette, Lordsfield Swimming Pool, based at Overton Primary School, is under threat of closure because of funding issues and a lack of volunteers.

The club, which is preparing to open for the 2014 season, has again warned villagers that they need to offer their time to help keep it open, or it will have to close.

Lauren McCann wrote in Overton’s newsletter: “We still need volunteers to help run it. Without these, the pool will not open, and we can’t have that, Overton!

“In order to open for each session, we need two trained supervisors (pool rescuers), one first aider, two desk clerks and three general supervisors.

“Despite communications with those attending last November’s general meeting and registering a willingness to help, we still require 10 pool rescuers and 10 first aiders. Additional general supervisors would be welcome also.”

Pool rescuers and first aiders will have training paid for. If enough volunteers are recruited the pool is scheduled to open at 2pm on May 24.
