A DERELICT office block could be transformed into a mix of flats and houses if plans are given the green light.

Basingstoke Partnership LLP has applied to Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council for outline planning permission for 14 new dwellings at Cranbourne House, in Bessemer Road.

The applicant proposes a mix of two two-bedroom flats, 10 three-bedroom homes and two four-bedroom properties at the site which is currently partly used by Liaise Loddon Limited – a company that supports autism sufferers.

The site would have 27 car parking spaces for residents of the proposed dwellings, and six of those will be for people visiting residents.

A report submitted to the borough council says: “It (the site) has been used as offices for many years, but we understand it has become less viable in recent times and tenants are hard to find.

“The existing upper floors are very tired and in desperate need of substantial refurbishment to bring them up to proper office standard.

“The property, as standing, does not compete with even secondary office stock elsewhere in the town, and therefore the property is not competitive and does not command tenant interest in a very competitive and tough market.”
