CROWDS gathered to see history come alive in Whitchurch at a ‘Dig for Victory’ commemoration.
Whitchurch Town Council made available an allotment plot before a group of local women planted potatoes.
Rows of Sharpes Express, Duke of York, Home Guard and Red Duke of York were planted by the women, who wore pinnies.
Before the event, the overgrown ground was cleared by machine, with allotment holder Barry Groves lending a hand.
Local builders the Hardys loaned a digger to help make the event possible, and after the women had performed the enactment, local children were also given the chance to plant potatoes.
