AS REPORTED on The Gazette website, around 1,500 parents in Hampshire have missed out on securing their first choice school for their child this year.

However, parents have the right to appeal the decision, and below is information on how this can be done.

Parents can appeal for more than one school.

First, parents must request an appeals pack from Hampshire County Council, which needs to be completed for each school, if you want to appeal for more than one.

These forms can be found here http://www3.hants.gov.uk/education/admissions/ad-guidance/ad-information/ed-ad-appeals.htm.

These forms should be completed for appeals for a community or voluntary controlled school in Hampshire.

Parents wishing to appeal for a voluntary aided, foundation, trust or academy school in Hampshire should contact the school directly.

Parents deciding to appeal will have to make a written statement and attend a hearing to present their case in person.

Notice of the date and venue of the hearing will be given at least 10 school days in advance.

Appeals for admission into Year R, Year 3 or Year 7 entry in September this year will be heard from May onwards.

A decision made by an independent appeal panel will usually be given, in writing, within five working days of the hearing.

Parents who did not secure a place for their child at their preferred school can also add their child’s name to a waiting list. For more information visit http://www3.hants.gov.uk/education/admissions/ad-guidance/ad-information/ed-ad-appeals.htm.
