A BASINGSTOKE supermarket marked its one-year anniversary of raising funds for a national charity by holding a crazy hair-themed day.

Staff at Tesco, in Chineham Shopping Centre, donated £1 to Diabetes UK in return for having their hair styled outrageously by hairdressers from The Cutting Bar.

The event was a celebration of a year-long partnership between Tesco and the charity.

Staff at the Chineham store raised £500 on the day, boosting their total fundraising for the year to £6,255.

Lannette College, better service manager at Tesco, said: “As a store, we wanted to hold a first birthday party and called it Let Your Hair Down.

“We arranged for two hairdressers to come from The Cutting Bar to do crazy hairstyles on all the staff. They paid £1 and we held a non-uniform day for another £1. We also had a birthday party in the staff restaurant and had a birthday cake.”

The Tesco branch has organised various fundraising events throughout the past year to raise funds for Diabetes UK, including raffles.

Paul Amadi, director of fundraising for Diabetes UK, said: “We are so grateful to all the Tesco staff at Chineham for getting involved and helping us to mark what has been an exciting 12 months. As well as celebrating in style, this has helped to raise valuable funds for Diabetes UK’s work.”
