THREE nuisance salesmen have been fined for going door-to-door in north Hampshire villages without a certificate.

David Speck, Ashley Chadburn and Gary Stocker were spotted by police on March 3 this year in Sherfield-on-Loddon and Up Nately with black holdalls containing household and car cleaning products.

Officers stopped them and they were summoned to court “for acting as a pedlar without a pedlars certificate contrary to the Pedlars Act 1871”, police said.

The three men appeared at Aldershot Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, April 10.

Speck, 19, of Alconbury Way, Middlesbrough and Chadburn, 21, of Broad Eadow Road, Nottingham, were fined £305 each, while Stocker, 24, of Joicey Court, Hartlepool, was fined £85.

PC Andrew Reid, the beat officer for Upton Grey and The Candovers, said: “This is an excellent result and we hope that as all three worked for the same company the message will get home to them and to others that illegal door-to-door salesmen who come to the Basingstoke area will be subject to enforcement action.”
