A BASINGSTOKE woman really had a Mother’s Day to remember – giving birth to her first child on the special day.

Clare Marshall was one of four ladies who gave birth at Basingstoke hospital last Sunday. She and her partner Callum Chivers welcomed baby Connor Chivers into the world at 3.45pm – two weeks after his due date of March 16.

Clare, who works in a bank, said: “We were getting anxious, especially as they tried to induce me but that didn’t work.”

The 24-year-old, of Cranbourne Lane, Cranbourne, had an emergency Caesarean, and said she was “extremely relieved” that Connor was delivered safely, weighing 8lbs 8ozs.

She said: “Relieved is one word for it – it is hard to put into words how I’m feeling.”

Callum, who works in electronics, added: “When they brought him round for me to hold, it was just a great feeling,”

The couple, who hoped to return home from hospital yesterday, have had a stream of visitors to the hospital.

Clare said: “We’ve got everything ready for him and the nursery has been ready for weeks – we weren’t expecting to wait this long to meet him.

“I’m really looking forward to showing him off to everyone. He already seems to be a hit with the ladies and everyone has been commenting on his chubby cheeks.”

She said the fact that her son was born on Mother’s Day made it extra special.
