DO THESE people hold the key to solving a brutal attack at the Top of The Town?

That is the belief of detectives investigating the attack on two men in an alleyway between Winchester Street and Joices Yard, at around 3.20am on Sunday, March 16.

Two 27-year-old men, both from Chineham, were assaulted in the alleyway. One of them was punched in the head and suffered a broken jaw, which needed treatment at the Royal Surrey Hospital in Guildford.

His injuries were so serious that he was initially unable to speak to detectives in the days following the attack.

A 17-year-old man from Basingstoke was arrested and is currently on police bail.

Detectives now want to hear from four people captured on CCTV close to the time of the attack who may have witnessed it.

They are a female in a short dress, a couple eating a takeaway, and the driver of a vehicle, possibly a Lexus, that was parked at the top of the Joices Yard car park.

Detective Constable Dan Leese said: “We believe the people from the CCTV images may have witnessed a serious assault. Is this you or someone you know?

“This assault happened in the town centre and close to a busy taxi rank. We are really keen to speak to you, please contact us with any information.”

Anyone with information can contact DC Leese at Basingstoke police station on 101, or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
