FILM-MAKERS and musicians in the borough are being urged by Basingstoke MP Maria Miller to enter two of Parliament’s largest competitions.
Rock the House and Film the House were founded by MP Mike Weatherley, are sponsored by industry companies including Google, Lionsgate, Yamaha and Total Film, and are supported by celebrity patrons including Brian May and Alice Cooper.
Both competitions offer the opportunity for creative people in Basingstoke to have their work judged by the leading lights of the industry, winning prizes ranging from festival slots to studio time, equipment, and the chance to have their work premiered in London’s West End.
Mrs Miller, who is also the Government’s Culture Secretary, said: “These competitions are great initiatives which give musicians and film-makers the opportunity to showcase their originality and talent.
“I would urge anyone in Basingstoke with ability and ambition in these areas to get involved with the competitions.”
The deadline for applicants to enter either competition is March 31, and more information is available at and filmthehouse.com.
