YOUNG pupils from Odiham have made the podium yet again in the regional final of a Formula One competition.
Three teams from Robert May’s School, in West Street, caught the attention of the judges at the London and South East F1 in Schools Regional Final, held at Stamford Bridge, home of Chelsea FC.
They will now take part in the national finals, in March, at the Big Bang Science Fair, at the NEC in Birmingham.
The secondary school has a proud record of competing in the engineering competition, and teams from the school have previously travelled abroad to take part in international finals.
The competition involves designing, building and racing a miniature Formula One car, and presenting their efforts to a panel of judges. At the regional finals, Colussus F1 came second in the F1 class.
Team manager Victoria Waterfield, 16, said: “Today went really well for us and we’re looking forward to the nationals. We need to focus on our car now and make sure we meet the regulations.”
The other team members are Dan Warnes, 16, Charlie Flynn, 16, Emma Baldry, 15, Rachel Matthews, 14 and Paul Cumner, 14.
Team Venom won in the Bloodhound F1 class, while sister team Ignition came second. Ignition were comprised of Helen Jarman, 14, Jessie Dewhurst, 13, Nila Pillai, 14, Francesca Fleet, 14, Ben Syndercombe, 14.
