OUTSTANDING hospital staff, who go above and beyond on a regular basis, have been honoured at a special evening.

More than 125 members of staff from Basingstoke, Winchester and Andover hospitals celebrated their achievements with colleagues and special guests.

The evening, held in The Ark Conference Centre, in Basingstoke hospital, was the first time that Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, which runs the three hospitals, had gathered all Wow! Awards winners from the previous year together.

Nominations for the awards, which acknowledge hospital staff who go above and beyond the call of duty, are made by the public and members of staff, and the trust’s governors choose a small number of people to receive an award each month.

Chief operating officer and chief nurse Donna Green said: “We have an outstanding group of staff and the awards highlight the dedication and hard work they put in to deliver high-quality services for our patients.

“Our staff have been nominated for some amazing things, and it makes me feel extremely proud and privileged to work here when I read all the nominations we receive.”

The highlight of the evening was a presentation of awards to the best of the best – special overall awards chosen by directors, local rotary organisations and the Foundation Trust’s chairman Elizabeth Padmore.

The medical division overall winners were sister Becky Hutchison and the team from ward E4 at Basingstoke hospital, while Julie Adams, chemotherapy ward sister at Royal Hampshire County Hospital, picked up the surgical division overall winner.

Miss Avideah Nejad, consultant obstetrician at Basingstoke hospital, was the winner of the family and clinical support services category, and Nigel Jensen, who works in rapid response at Basingstoke hospital, won the corporate services division.

Guests who attended the evening, including borough Mayor Councillor Dan Putty, and the mayors of Test Valley and Winchester, also enjoyed a speech from renowned Basingstoke businesswoman Liz Jackson MBE.
