A SINGER is delighted to have raised over £1,000 for BBC’s Children in Need after selling copies of a Basingstoke-themed calendar around the borough.

Brian James, 68, of Fountains Close, Popley, raised £1,100 for the children’s charity after creating the calendar, which features images of buskers around the town centre, and the singer with noticeable faces, including Basingstoke MP Maria Miller.

Over 60 calendars have been sold by Brian and the café team leader in the Sainsbury’s branch at The Malls, since November.

Mr James was eager to praise café team leader Sarah Clear, telling The Gazette: “I would like to thank Sarah. If it hadn’t have been for Sarah, I wouldn’t have sold any calendars.”

As a thank-you for all the hard work that the team leader put into the campaign, the singer presented her with a camera.

Sarah said: “I am very thankful for the present and will be giving the camera to the Basingstoke Young Carers.”

Mr James presented the cheque to the BBC at its headquarters in London.

He is already planning a new calendar for 2015, which will see a collaboration between him and Basingstoke Town Football Club with the proceeds of the next calendar going to the Basingstoke Young Carers group.
