THE Basingstoke UKIP group has been given a boost after its office was chosen to be the regional headquarters for the party’s South East European Parliament election push.
The office, based in Church Street at the Top of The Town, will be the South East hub for the party in the lead up to European Parliament election on May 22.
Rob Burberry, UKIP campaign manager for the South East region, told The Gazette: “The constituency of the South East region stretches from Dover to the New Forest and all the way up to Milton Keynes, excluding London.
“What Basingstoke has to offer is that it is in the heart of the European Parliamentary constituency. It has got superb connections with the M3 and train lines.”
He added: “Basingstoke has got a lot going for it. We are based in Church Street so if anyone needs to see us, we have the car park in Joices Yard and you can just walk to Church Street from the railway station.”
Phil Heath, Basingstoke UKIP campaign manager, added: “They chose us because of our geographical location and because, locally, we came second in the county elections and pushed the Conservatives hard, ending up with 23 per cent of the vote right across Basingstoke.
“Basingstoke is a target area for UKIP.”
