FOREIGN coins will be used to help transform the grounds of an Odiham school.

Villagers have been asked to donate their unwanted foreign coins to raise cash for work at Buryfields Infant School.

The Cash for Coins appeal will culminate in a culture week at the school, starting on Monday, March 3, when pupils will learn more about the origins of the coins by placing them on a large world map.

The coins will then be exchanged for cash to help renovate the school grounds.

Megan Forbes, chair of the school’s PTA, said: “The grounds need a lot of updating. The PTA has been focusing on computers and technology for inside the school, but now the focus is on developing the grounds. It’s fine as an area but it does not inspire imagination.

“We will collect coins that people will not miss. Everybody has spare change from holidays and hopefully we can pool that up.”

Anyone who wants to take part and help raise funds for the school can donate coins to the Post Office or Lloyds bank branch in High Street.
