A COUNCILLOR who criticised a bus service for failing to turn up one evening has clarified that she was not referring to the number 74 run by Basingstoke Community Transport (BCT).

As previously reported in The Gazette, during a discussion about problems with timekeeping of the number 74 service, Councillor Lucy Sloane Williams told Overton Parish Council that a bus had not turned up one evening when her friend was waiting for it.

However, she clarified at the latest council meeting that her comments were in fact referring to the number 76 bus.

Perhaps the journalist should get all the facts from both sides of a story before publication in future and this would save anyone getting egg on their face by having to correct an article. A lot of people would have read the first article and would have got the impression that Basingstoke Community Transport had left this elderly person at a bus stop late at night because they didn't turn up (which the story implied). No bus service is 100% on time 100% of the time and to criticise a service that has had only two complaints in two years means Basingstoke must be a boring place if that's all that can be reported on. I'm sure other bus services have a poorer record than that and the reason for the complaints weren't reported
