A CHILDREN’S author from Overton has published his 14th book.

Ed Wicke was inspired to pen Wicked Tales Five: The Grimm Selection, by the 200th anniversary of the publication of the Grimm brothers’ Household Tales on December 20, 2012.

The authors wrote a number of well-known children’s stories including Hansel and Gretel, Snow White and Cinderella.

Mr Wicke, who visits around 30 schools each year to talk to children about reading and creative writing, said: “It started me thinking – some of these tales are rather grim, and for many years the audiences of seven to 12-year-olds|I present to have expressed a desire for some scary stories.

“Therefore, I set myself a 12-month target to produce a book of stories based on some of the grimmer Grimm tales.”

His 14th book includes eight funny, and sometimes scary, stories, including one called The Handless Maiden about a girl called Eva whose parents sell her to the Devil, and another titled Zombie Barbie.
