SIX people are due to appear at Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court today accused of scamming users of an online dating website.
The six are accused of asking women, including alleged victims in Basingstoke, to hand over money after meeting men on the match.com website.
Five of the accused are from Southsea in Hampshire. They are Emmanuel Oko, 29, of Waverley Grove, Brooke Boston, 28, of Chelsea Road, Monty Emu, 28, of Frencham Road, Eberechi Ekpo, 26, of Adair Road and Chukwuka Ugwu, 28, of Somers Road.
The sixth person is Adewunmi Nusi, 26, of Bomford Close, Hermitage, Berkshire.
They are all accused of conspiracy to commit fraud by false representation.
Detective Constable Darrin Carey said: “These charges come following a lengthy investigation into an alleged scam where women are asked to hand over significant amounts of cash after meeting men on the match.com website.
“Alleged victims in this case are from the Basingstoke area, across Hampshire and England.”
