THE Army has been deployed to help the flood-hit people of Buckskin.

Ten personnel from the Royal Corps of Signals arrived at the flooding site this morning from Blandford Camp, Dorset.

They had a briefing in the Ridgeway Community Centre, in Blackdown Close, with staff from Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council, before touring the flooded areas.

They will help to fill and deploy sandbags where needed.

A total of 31 homes have now flooded in the Buckskin area since Saturday, including Antrim Close, Blackdown Close, Bodmin Close, Exmoor Close and Holyrood Court.

Following the public meeting with flood-hit residents on Tuesday, portable toilets have been moved around the area from their original site near the Ridgeway Community Centre.

Sandbags have also been delivered to The Candovers, Overton, Whitchurch and St Mary Bourne.

An officer from the Royal Navy has also come to the borough, to look at potential flooding sites with borough council staff, the Environment Agency and members of Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service.

The Met Office predicts more rain tonight and tomorrow morning, with a yellow warning for rain from 6am tomorrow to 6am on Saturday.
