A DAREDEVIL teenager from Basingstoke will leap out of a plane this weekend to raise money for a charity close to his heart.
Ollie Varns is preparing to do a tandem skydive at Old Sarum Airfield, in Salisbury, on Sunday to generate funds for the Alzheimer’s Society.
Ollie’s grandfather, Denis Jarmain, was diagnosed with the illness in 2008, and was a member of the Basingstoke Alzheimer’s Society group until his death in 2011.
The 18-year-old, from Beggarwood, who works for Disconsulting IT Limited, has raised nearly £500 so far, which was his target.
He said: “I decided to take part in this challenge for Alzheimer’s Society because this illness took our grandad away from us all only two years ago.
“I’m doing this skydive so I can raise my bit in helping find a way of curing this illness.
“It will be a tough challenge but it’s great to know that I will be raising funds to help support people to live well with dementia today and fund research to find a cure for tomorrow.”
