A BRIEFING meeting will take place for flood-hit residents in Buckskin following more bad weather this morning.

Staff from Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council will hold the session at the Ridgeway Centre, in Blackdown Close, from 5pm this evening.

A total of 19 homes have now been evacuated in roads including Antrim Close, Sperrin Close, Bodmin Close and Holyrood Court.

More than 50 people have been affected, staying overnight in hotels and B&Bs.

The borough council has used tankers in a bid to stop the water levels from rising, but warn that the groundwater level is still high and that more homes are at risk of flooding.

They have also put up warning signs where flood water has been contaminated by sewage, as is the case in Sperrin Close and Holyrood Court.

Villagers in The Candovers and St Mary Bourne have received sandbags to protect their properties, although houses have flooded in Preston Candover with water coming under floorboards and into cellars.

The B3046 through Brown Candover is submerged and closed to traffic with a diversion in place.

Rain has fallen steadily in Basingstoke this morning, accompanied by strong gusts of wind.

The Met Office predicts this will ease in the afternoon and evening, but more bad weather is predicted for most of Wednesday.

The forecast includes a yellow warning for rain from midday on Wednesday afternoon.
