THE family of a man who died in a car crash in Whitchurch have paid tribute to him.

As reported on The Gazette website, John Porter died at the scene in Larks Barrow Hill, on the Newbury Road in Whitchurch, after the Ford Escort he was driving was involved in a collision with an A-class Mercedes, at 6.20am on February 6.

The family of the 64-year-old have released a statement describing him as a “true friend and gentleman.”

It added: “He will be greatly missed by all those that knew and loved him. The family would very much appreciate being left to grieve in peace.”

Four men who were in the Mercedes, all from the Southampton area, were treated for injuries.

Two sustained life-threatening injuries and the other two suffered non-life threatening injuries.

They were taken to Southampton General Hospital for treatment.
