POLICE have named the man who died yesterday after a car crash in Whitchurch.

John Porter, 64, who lived in the town, died at the scene after the Ford Escort he was driving was involved in a collision with an A-class Mercedes.

As reported in The Gazette, police were called to the scene at Larks Barrow Hill on the Newbury Road in Whichurch at 6.20am yesterday.

The four men who were travelling in the Mercedes have been treated for injuries. All are from the Southampton area.

Two sustained life-threatening injuries and the other two people sustained non-life threatening injuries.

All were taken to Southampton General Hospital for treatment and one man has subsequently been released from hospital.

The three other men are still receiving treatment Road closures were put in place until early yesterday afternoon at the Newbury Road junction with Cole Henley Road to Litchfield to allow an investigation to be carried out.
