ONE man died and two others sustained life-threatening injuries in a car crash in Whitchurch this morning.
Police, ambulance and fire crews were called to Larks Barrow Hill on the Newbury Road at 6.20am after a white Ford Escort van was involved in a collision with an A-class Mercedes.
The man driving the Ford Escort died at the scene and all of the four men who were travelling in the Mercedes are being treated for injuries in Southampton General Hospital, which has a major trauma unit.
Two are being treated for life-threatening injuries and two for non-life threatening injuries.
Road closures at the Newbury Road junction with Cole Henley Road to Litchfield are expected to be in place for the next few hours while an investigation is undertaken. Local diversions are in place.
Anyone with any information or who may have seen the vehicles prior to the collision is asked to contact the Road Death Investigation Team at Eastleigh on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
