SHOPPERS and staff put on their dancing shoes at a Basingstoke supermarket to help a fundraising drive.

More than 160 people took part in dancing the Cha Cha Slide, by DJ Casper, at Tesco in Chineham Shopping Centre last Saturday.

The dance was simultaneously performed at other Tesco stores across the country, in a bid to raise money for Diabetes UK, Tesco’s chosen charity.

Paul Cavaliere, store manager at Tesco, in Chineham, said: “My colleagues jumped at the chance to take part in the Dance for Diabetes fundraising event.

“They worked hard to perfect the routine and were pleased so many customers joined in too. Our customers have been incredibly generous and I’d like to thank them all for donating.”

Among the groups that took part in the Chineham dance were Enco Dance, Basingstoke Clog Dancers, Spotlight UK and Basingstoke Tappers. The dancers raised £600 for the charity.
