A BY-ELECTION to fill a vacancy on Whitchurch Town Council will be held on February 27.

Nominations can be made to Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council until noon on January 31.

The seat became vacant following the sudden resignation of Allan Vaughn last December. He was the fourth councillor to resign in two months.

Jackie Day, Linda Thomas and Paul McGarvey all stood down in October, citing a lack of support as their reasons. Mr Vaughan said he was quitting because of work commitments and matters of policy.

Council chairman, John Clark has repeatedly declined to discuss the resignations with The Gazette.
